Our Story:
Our Heart and Our Home
The Need for Creative Sanctuary
Performing arts are born from the pulse of the community, but they require a place to breathe. More than just a room, a creative space is the sanctuary where an idea transforms into an experience—integral to the journey of the performer and the heart of the audience alike.
A History of Held Space
We remember when Chicago’s creative heartbeat was at its most vital. It was a time of "Work It Together" innovation, where every rooftop, basement, and storefront was an open invitation to create. But the landscape has shifted; rising costs and complex barriers have replaced open doors with a labyrinth, forcing our most vital voices into survival mode.
Our Response: A Supportive Hand
The Platform Center was born to be the solution—and more importantly, to be a supportive anchor. We recognize that when creative risk becomes a liability, the entire ecosystem suffers. We are here to neutralize those pressures and welcome back the voices that have been silenced by a lack of access.
What We Offer: More Than Just a Floor
We don’t just provide square footage; we provide a lifeline to infrastructure for the underrepresented, emerging, and traditionally marginalized companies by offering:
-
Subsidized Rehearsal & Performance Sanctuaries: High-quality spaces designed to let you focus on your craft, not your rent.
-
A Collaborative Shared Office: A space to network, share resources and build partnerships with fellow visionaries.
-
Our Cabaret & Bar: A warm gathering place for the community to unite, share small performances, and revitalize the creative spirit of Chicago.
We are the Platform Center. Our doors are open, our space is yours, and your story is home.
